Update on the water situation: Peter (my hero!) found a broken hose clamp behind the water heater that caused the problem and was able to replace it with a new one from the plethora of spares on board. We lost most of the unused water in one tank, but we still have 200 gallons in the other one, so we are fine for now, and the water heater is functional again!
The corroded and broken hose clamp |
We have been motoring all day and fighting off boredom after the water tank incident. Peter took a long nap, which he desperately needed. The three of us played two games of Take5. The sun set under a blanket of low clouds, and it was gorgeous.

Dinner is next on the schedule. (That is a joke. We have no civilized schedule for meals or going to bed.) I will serve one of the dishes I prepared in advance because large swells are causing the boat to rock from side to side constantly. Then it will be time to take turns on night watch. Let me repeat: I hate night watch, particularly when there are no stars or moon to be seen, which has been almost all the time.
Heat is limited to the times we run can run the generator, which we cannot do while running the engine! We are being saved by hot water bottles! We are getting used to wearing at least two layers inside and about four when we are on deck. Allow me to say: THIS IS NOT SUMMER!
Sometime late tomorrow afternoon, we should be anchored within a fjord in southwest Greenland. Before then, however, strong winds and possible rain is expected. I may be hibernating.
