Socialing and Working on the Boat

Yesterday evening, two guests joined us on board, Ann from S/V Bee's Knees and Ted from S/V Sundog. We enjoyed snacks and wine while discussing boats and travels. Ann has a dog on board, so she left about an hour after sunset, but Ted stayed for dinner. I had made a big pot of lentils creole sauce to go over rice before our guests arrived, and I just needed to heat up the sauce and cook the rice.

Today, other than jumping in the water to get refreshed in the late afternoon before showering, we stayed on board. There were sprinkles occasionally, so we had to open and close hatches several times, but otherwise the weather was good and there was a welcome breeze coming through the boat. Peter was back in the engine room. Today he put the last of the bolts in the generator. mount That would seem like a quick and simple job, but the access is tight and awkward, and some drilling was involved, so it actually took hours.

Today, in addition to reading about half of Henry James' Washington Square, I took everything out of the refrigerator, cleaned it. The refrigerator has a door for the top section on the counter top, and the bottom section is accessed from a vertical door outside the galley. So, just like the generator job, some contortion was necessary to access all the walls and shelves inside. At one point, I was lying on the floor with my head and upper torso twisted inside. After the cleaning was accomplished, I used a different arrangement for storing fresh food, because all too often I was taking out cheese or vegetables such as cucumbers, zucchinis and squash and finding them coated with mold. I decided that the protein and vegetables need to be as close as possible to the freezing plate and the condiments farthest away. This makes it a little bit more difficult to access the veggies and cheese, but it is better than having to throw away food or scrape off spoiled parts.

At tea time, we played backgammon, and Peter (through a series of lucky rolls of doubles) won two out of three. Now, we are getting ready to play Scrabble. He has promised to play quickly!

There was only one rainbow today.
