Katya Arrived!

This morning, I scrubbed cleats with acetone, removing old labels; the printed words identifying the lines had totally disappeared. Peter purchased new labels to help novices such as Katya with communication when commands are given to control the halyards, sheets, reef lines, boom vang and other lines. I was also going to scrub the pollen infested lines, but it was simply way, way too hot to do anything on deck. I did some cleaning down below to pass the rest of the time until Katya's arrival shortly after noon. She has come to spend nine days on the boat with us before the three of us drive to Ocean City, Maryland, from Oxford, for the annual Rodgers family vacation.

Katya and Peter at Anchorage Marina

After lunch at Chipotle, Katya and I went to the marina's pool; the water was quite refreshing. There was rain for about an hour mid-afternoon, and that cooled the atmosphere a bit. The three of us walked over to O'Donnell Square and had dinner at the Shuck Shack. Both the carnivores had large portions of mussels.

Afterwards, Katya and I stopped at Safeway to pick up the last of the provisions we need before we set off. Then she and I came to the Anchorage Marina facilities to shower (AHHHH!) and do laundry.

Tomorrow afternoon we have plans to visit the Walker Art Museum. However, because of the high winds generated by Tropical Storm Elsa which are heading up the coast, we may have to leave Baltimore before then and find a hurricane hole up some river. We will check the weather again in the morning before making a final decision.
