Off to the Chesapeake

We have had breakfast and got everything ship-shape down below. There has been a chilly wind from the north, creating the need for sweaters or sweatshirts over T-shirts. Gone is the time to get up in the morning and put on a swimsuit for the day. One thing we like about South Carolina is the good classical music station. What we do not like are the local small speed boats. This bay is a mile wide here, but the good old local boys deliberately speed pass at high speed within 5 or 10 feet of the hulls of sailboats anchored here, intentionally creating wakes. Yesterday, a sailboat underway requested that a local powerboat give them a slow pass. There was no response from the speeding vessel, but the next thing we heard was the sailboat politely telling them on VHF 16 that the wake was totally unnecessary and then the guys on the passing boat came on the frequency, hooting, hollering and congratulating themselves on their antic. So much for Southern hospitality and manners!

We are underway now (7:30 a.m.) and I will soon lose the cell signal. Not looking forward to two nights of intermittent watches and days of tedium.

The sun's rays are piercing through as we head out to sea
